Show Me Your Faith

18 Aug

James 2:17  Even so faith,
if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.18
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith
without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. (KJV)

Faith in simplified terms simply means to have a strong belief in God. Faith can not be intellectualized because faith is void of human achievement. However, by our actions we verify our faith. God confirms by His own words that we are in covenant with Him. In this covenant relationship there are certain promises that have been made to us that we can not bring to pass because it is beyond human possibility. Abraham entered into a covenant with God but he did not have the power to perform such an awesome promise that God spoke to him. However, he agreed with God that God would bring the promise to pass. The symbolic passing of God through the pieces of the sacrifice was a visible assurance to Abraham that the covenant God had made was real. Things that are impossible for man are possible for God but just as in His expectation of Abraham God wants our agreement.

GEN 15:17  And it came to
pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace,
and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.

James speaks of the instability of a man who wavers. Wavering, doubting the promises of God allows unbelief to enter the equation and delay or prevent the receipt of the promise. Millions of pieces of what we label as “godly” advice cross the lips of those who say they believe the promises of God. Many entice others to stand on the promises and believe God that in due time His promises will manifest. Some, whose claim is a prophetic call give advice with the stipulation that they are hearing from God. Be careful! Eventually you will be put to the test and called upon to heed your own advice and to depend on God.

James 1:6  But let him ask
in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea
driven with the wind and tossed.7  For
let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

Jesus said that all things were possible for those who believe. Your faith is measured by the level of your dependence on God. It should be less of you and more of Him. Less of you and more of Him until it is all of Him and none of you. Meaning that your faith has matured to the level where you trust and depend on God and not on yourself.

Pray…. Lord, I believe; help my unbelief. (Mark 9:24)
